2023 Sees a busy competition calendar year for us,  starting off in March.  Here we take a look at a few of the first events in brief detail taking place here at Bywell Shooting Ground and what we have to look forward to.

100 Sporting on Sunday 5th March.

This is planned to be shot over 12 stands, it will be squadded with entries being taken now. The layout is being designed by Sandy Burn (our head coach) and he plans to incorporate some of the woodland stands which always goes down well with our regular customers.  Also on that day will be the first chance to qualify for the 5th Annual Pro-Sporting Challenge.

Those who have never seen or had a go at the Pro-Sporting it’s a series of 7 targets, with increasing level of difficulty starting at target No 1 worth one point and so on to target No 7 which is normally an incredibly difficult target! These are all shot as single targets with full use of the gun, after that the Speed round commences. The speed round is the exactly the same targets, shot 1 to 7 however once you’ve called pull for the first target (No1) the next target is release every 4 seconds and so on until all 7 targets have been released. So, the speed round is like a mini flush, it’s absolutely great fun. The top 8 scores over all the qualifiers go head-to-head in the super final for the cash prize and the title of Pro-Sporting champion 2023.

All Round consists of 25 Skeet, 25 Sporting, 25 ABT and 25 single barrel, it’s a great format that gives good variation and your shooting skills the ultimate test. Pre-bookings are being taken now, we will have all these disciplines  on during regular practice on the run up so you can improve on your worst discipline.

Also on the same day will we will be running  full 100 target competitions of ABT, Skeet and DTL. These are completely separate competitions to the all round.

Sunday 2nd April 100 Sportrap.

This again is the Northumberland championship; Sportrap is proving to be one of Bywell’s most popular disciplines. Running over 4 layouts and start times every 15 mins, with start times commencing at 10am.

If you haven’t shot quite enough that day or would like to warm up before the Sportrap, we will also have running a 50 Super Sporting registered competition.

Sunday 16th April 100 DTL & 100 ABT are both North of England team selections shoots. This fixture in our calendar is a real opportunity to get some great competition practice at Bywell ready for a summer of major events.
