Clay Pigeon Shooting

Here at Bywell Shooting Ground we offer a full range of clay pigeon disciplines to suit all shooters. These are available to shoot in both our CPSA registered competitions and our regular practice sessions. The disciplines available at Bywell are as follows...

Down The Line (Available Wednesday & Saturday Practice)

DTL features targets thrown from a covered trap house to a distance of between 45 to 50 metres at a height of 2.75m and can vary in angle by up to 22 degrees either side of centre. The competitor receives 3 points for a first barrel hit, 2 points for a second barrel hit and 0 for a miss giving a maximum of 75 points having shot at 25 targets per line.

Sportrap (Available Wednesday & Saturday Practice)

Sportrap comprises targets set randomly similar to English sporting but this discipline is shot on one compact layout. Five traps are shot in various combinations over the round each one lettered A to E as single targets, report pairs and simultaneous. Each stand has five targets shot at in total meaning a maximum score of 25 points.

English Skeet (Available Wednesday & Saturday Practice)

Sportrap comprises targets set randomly similar to English sporting but this discipline is shot on one compact layout. Five traps are shot in various combinations over the round each one lettered A to E as single targets, report pairs and simultaneous. Each stand has five targets shot at in total meaning a maximum score of 25 points.

English Sporting (Available Saturday Practice)

This discipline is one of the sports most popular! This discipline incorporates targets of all types, speeds and styles. These are designed to roughly simulate live quarry. It is usually split over numerous stands with perhaps 10 targets shot per stand to make up a course of 50 or 100 targets. Each stand could feature a single target, simultaneous pair or pair on report.

Double Rise (Practice available by appointment)

Targets on double rise are thrown simultaneously on separate fixed trajectories with one to the left and the other to the right of centre. The shooter fires one shot at each target getting a pair on each of the stands. 30 or 50 clays is usually the number of targets shot per line.

ABT (Practice Available by appointment)

Automatic Ball Trap is another popular trap discipline. ABT is similar to DTL but the target thrown is faster, has a greater angle and can vary in height dramatically. It is possible to fire 2 shots at each target but unlike DTL, either shot counts as a hit if the target is broken. The total maximum score is 25 points.
