ABOUT BYWELL SHOOTING GROUND
Bywell Shooting Ground is situated on Bywell Farm, Felton, Northumberland, just off the A1. The proprietors are Richard, Allan and Susan Henry. Allan has shot for England eleven times and counting, also had the great honour of captaining a winning team in Ireland. Allan has shot for England many times.
The clay ground is run alongside what is a very much working arable farm. The ground was established back in 1980. Bywell has grown from having only two trap layouts to twelve which makes it one of the largest down the line ground in the UK. Also Bywell has recently been awarded Premier Plus status by clay shooting governing body the CPSA
In 2001 Bywell hosted the European championships for the first time, which was a great success. In 2004 Bywell had the great honour of hosting the World DTL Championships. In 2006 we will be hosting the DTL European Championships, for the third time. Bywell has been the home of the English Open DTL Championship Weekend for the past 18 years. This event is the largest single one-day event in the country.
At Bywell, they work as a great team. This is the reason why Bywell is so successful, it is not just as a competitive clay pigeon shooting ground, but is a great place to learn to shoot in superb surroundings. Bywell is renowned for its Gun Shop, which is well stocked with everything you could need. The staff are very experienced in clay, game and rifle shooting.
Every Wednesday afternoon and all day Saturday the ground is open for practice, Down the Line, Skeet, Automatic Ball Trap and the High Tower is available. Please ring to check High tower and Ball Trap availability.
Bywell is very keen to encourage youngsters to take up the sport. They also have a growing number of ladies taking up shooting whether it is to compete alongside their husbands at Clay pigeon shooting or accompany them Game shooting.
